  2. Regulatory Council

President's greeting

Antoni Galceran i Massó (La Palma d'Ebre 1969) Farmer, olive oil producer.

The regulatory council of the Siurana Protected Denomination of Origin that I have the honour of chairing will make every effort to guarantee the quality of the extra virgin olive oil produced by our recognised entities and the thousands of producers distributed across our territory, conscious of the fact that the fine work of farmers and producers working on the arbequina variety of olive have achieved an excellent product. We will not tire in our efforts to extend and improve the promotion of the Siurana PDO brand to increase sales of the products sold with our seal of quality year on year. Likewise, we will promote the culture of extra virgin olive oil to ensure that each harvest reaches more homes and consumers. We hope to persevere with these good intentions well into the future.

Origins

A denomination of origin protects the name of a product originating in a specific geographic area. Its quality and characteristics are essentially and exclusively due to its place of origin, understood to include both natural and human factors, where the product is made, transformed and elaborated.

Siurana PDO is the second oldest denomination of origin for virgin olive oil in Spain. It was created in 1977 by a group of enterprising people working in the olive oil sector, who believed in the need to protect and promote the unique characteristics of an excellent oil extracted from the arbequina olive. Since 1979, when the first Regulations were published, the RC has been striving to promote the quality of the product and the Siurana PDO seal.

Regulatory Council

It is a public law corporation democratically constituted by representatives of the production, processing and marketing sectors of the geographical area. The Regulatory Council guarantees that the olive oil sold with the Siurana PDO protection has been produced in the geographical area included in the Denomination, produced according to its own regulations and controlled according to its quality parameters.
The objectives guiding the work of the Regulatory Council are:

• To guarantee the quality of Siurana PDO extra virgin olive oil
• To improve the promotion of the Siurana PDO brand
• To promote the culture of olive oil and the knowledge of the Siurana PDO seal of quality.

Regulations

The electoral process of Siurana PDO is governed by the provisions of the Law on Agri-Food Quality, the regulations implementing the same and the regulations of the DOP itself, as well as, complementarily, by the general electoral rules.
